CASINO ROYALE - COLLECTOR'S EDITION
Where do I start with this one? I have been a long-time Bond fan and collector so to be able to work on this project was unreal. Not only was I excited to work on it because it was a Bond film but because it was a GOOD Bond film. We worked on this for almost a year which included a trip to EON Productions in London and the Bond prop warehouse – also an interesting trip to Sony studios as I supervised the commentary mix down. Being able to watch every foot of dailies and behind-the-scenes material on this milestone film was, for a Bond nerd – simply too much to comprehend really. Where as I did title and graphic work on all of the documentaries, these are the pieces I specifically took on as lead video editor as well as the motion graphics:

CATCHING A PLANE: STORYBOARD TO SCREEN
Editor / Motion Graphics / Title Design
This was originally going to be a simple storyboard presentation of an alternate idea for the big airport chase sequence in the film Casino Royale. I personally scrubbed through over 600 tapes of dailies and behind the scenes footage and decided this piece could be much more than just a storyboard sequence. After finding interview clips that talked about this specific sequence I used those intermittently throughout as well as behind the scenes footage and unused film clips to show all the work that went into making this action scene. I wanted to keep the energy up and keep the piece moving by leaving in clap board and film gate flashes…creating a more raw making of feel to it as well as adding in some graphic elements along the same lines.

THE ART OF THE FREERUN
Editor / Motion Graphics / Title Design
This mini documentary focuses on Sebastien Foucan, co-founder of free-running and star of the big action sequence in the 2006 James Bond film “Casino Royale”. I searched through hours and hours of out-takes, interviews and behind the scenes footage to create a piece that would introduce us to Sebastien, his life growing up and his experience on “Casino Royale”. I intergraded film clips, interviews, out-takes, alternate takes and behind the scenes footage to keep the piece interesting and moving forward. Graphically I added in a spy like high tech look with the title, lower thirds, and sub chapters to keep in theme with the James Bond world.

6 FILMMAKER PROFILES
Editor / Motion Graphics / Title Design
This series of short video bios focuses on key filmmakers involved with the James Bond film Casino Royale. It was not a contracted extra for the dvd but was something I came up with because of all the un-used interview and behind the scenes footage we had left over. I thought it would be a stimulating idea to get a brief glimpse into the roles each of these people had with this film.
I divided each bio into several different sections covering everything from their early memories of the Bond films, how they got into the film industry, how they became a part of the Bond franchise team, and what their specific job was on the film. Each bio runs about 6 – 8 minutes which I tried to fill and cover with as much behind the scenes and outtake footage as I could get, giving the viewer exciting visuals other than the standard final film shots. All together these bios (Martin Campbell – Director, Phil Mehuex – Director of Photography, Alexander Witt – 2nd Unit Director, Gary Powell – Stunt Coordinator, Chris Corbould – Special Effects Coordinator and David Arnold – composer) have a total runtime of 57 minutes and are featured on the dvd and Blu-ray collector’s edition of Casino Royale.

STORYBOARD TO FILM COMPARISON
Editor / Motion Graphics / Title Design
I wanted to make this standard storyboard to film comparison piece graphically energetic, rather than a static side-by-side comparison. I thought some movement of the artwork along with the final film clips would keep it interesting. I also designed a spy-tech looking opening graphic and background to fill the blank screen space. It was a challenge to fill the frame with an interesting layout while at the same time make the two legible and synced.

AUDIO COMMENTARY WITH PRODUCER & DIRECTOR
Editor / Mix Supervisor
Your standard Director & Producer commentary, but not with out its challenges. Smoothing out content pattern and omiting any content removal requests from EON Productions. I also edited and prepared the picture in picture commentary camera angle with the film.
